Two weeks ago I had traveled to Mombasa for a two-week short course courtesy of my employer. I had planned that I was going to have a photo shoot before I came back but things did not happen as planned as there was minor incident on our way to the venue of the shoot. But what was of major value then, was our safety, shoots can always be done anytime right?
Today’s Friday Random five will be different, it will cover some insights and tips I got from my two weeks stay in Mombasa. Hopefully, you will have something to take home.

I was able to reflect on my life as a whole on some of the evenings since that was the only time I had to myself (classes used to end at 4.00pm). During this period, I came to understand more about the heart. That is after one of the teachings in one of the Sunday services I attended.
I realized that my heart had cracks (weaknesses) it made me remember this verse Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet he did not sin.”
I mean, Jesus was tempted in all manner but managed to keep His heart pure, who am I not to strive for a pure heart? The Bible clearly states that, As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy because I am holy.(1 Peter 1:14-16). By this, I have to address all cracks, not few but all since the cracks have a potential to destroy the whole me.
If the wall of a house starts to develop serious cracks, you have to be alert as the whole house will soon come down right? I am Still dealing with the cracks because all I want is a pure heart 😉
I learnt more on nutrition and the importance of being healthy, which I am trying to implement, although I “backslide” once in a while, I really need hard discipline 🙂 which reminds me of today morning, I was late for work and had to run to the stage, this is when the realization of how unfit I am downed, I need to be practical in matters to do with my health.

The place where I was attending my classes was at the town center but got to visit Diani and Malindi on one of the weekends. Being at the town center for two weeks, I can say that I learnt a few survival tips, the first week we were used to eating out. We tried out several restaurants, some of which I have forgotten their names, but these two stood out, so next time you find yourself at the town centre and you are hungry, just ask the tuk-tuk guy where Red rose(Their fried fish is everything!) or Little Chef (try out their chicken plus they serve large amount of food). There is also a restaurant opposite Posta, I have forgotten its name, it has green decor, I simply fell in love with all their meals.
For the first time, I got to spend my birthday in Mombasa, it was exciting having to share the good moments in a serene environment, and to top it all, a surprise cake from a very special friend, all the way from Nairobi (Ps: the cake did not come from Nairobi, the collaboration game was simply on point!) But all in all, I was able to appreciate the “little” things in life.
I cannot for a day take things for granted, just having to spend time in God’s presence and the Joy of the Lord being one’s strength is something massive! and what I still pray for, is a pure heart, a heart that is filled with unconditional love from above, love that makes me love my neighbor even if they are not worthy of the love, I am constantly reminded of Christ’s love, He loved with no condition, although it is easier said than done, it is important to show love to even the person you think is the least to deserve your love, now you see why it is important to have a pure heart? 🙂
I met this amazing, talented upcoming fashion/lifestyle blogger on the shores of Diani, on one random day! Her name is Wanjiru Kariuki. She is a wife, a mother and above all her sense of fashion will make you subscribe to her mailing list 🙂 and her quiet heart is evident through her posts. You can read her current post Here.
Have a splendid weekend!!
